The Assemblies of God group Chi Alpha, from U.C.L.A. have been here in Haiti for the past two weeks. Led by Rev. Winston Bui, this makes the 13th. time they have visited us here at the Royal Palm Children's home over the years. The young people in our home and Fond Doux are thrilled beyond words when they come. They are a tremendous blessing to all of us here and we look forward to their next trip.

Funny
My sweet little precious girl is also funny. Here Exampt was trying to take her picture and she just wanted to show off. Only God knows how much I love this baby who has no father or mother to care for her. I thank God every day for her.

Anaika Rene Jones
Anaika Then |
Anaika Now |
There once was a little baby girl only 8 months old who was living with a crippled cousin and her mother. She lived in a shack with no medical help and practically no food. One day her mother said she was going into town and would be back before dark. She never came back and no one knows what happened to her as she has disappeared off the face of the earth. I heard of the situation as the crippled cousin could not take care of her and found someone to look after her. She was taken to the doctor where he said she was suffering from malaria, typhoid, worms and severe malnutrition. She only weighed a little over 9 pounds. We begin treating her and giving her proper food and on the 3rd of January she celebrated her first birthday. A cake was made for the occasion and topped with one candle. All the little kids gathered around and sang “Happy Birthday” to her. Now she has a nice room and a real baby bed that she can sleep in. She has a young woman who takes care of her. She never misses a church service and is to be dedicated to the Lord on Sunday January the 15th by Rev. Ted Lung of Camp Point, Illinois (She had no birth certificate or any papers) They asked me to give her a name so I named her Anaika Rene Jones. (The Rene was after my daughter Brigitte Rene)

Mommy's Coming Home
Everyone here is so excited because Mommy is planning on coming home on Saturday the 16th. She has been in Atlanta, Georgia staying with her daughter Stephanie and at the same time getting some medical attention. I do not know of anyone who does not love Mommy as she is so precious and kind.

Exampt is a good Christian boy who loves the Lord with all of his heart. He helps me with anything I need and recently Rev. Ted Lung of Camp Point, Illinois purchased him the motorcycle shown at right, to run errands for the home. He purchases propane, bread, fruits, vegetables, and anything else we need. This saves the truck and also saves on gasoline which sells or over $40.00 HD a gallon. We give God thanks for this wonderful gift.

Terribly Hot
It is extremely hot here in Haiti. This thermometer is located on the wall of my room. As you can see it is registering 96 degrees at 4:29 p.m.. There is no A/C in my room and to think that this is only June and the three hottest months are ahead of us. The heat is rough on an old 75 year old man. Ha

Mary Ange
Mary Ange
It is with a heavy heart that I let everyone know that our precious girl passed away. It was around Thanksgiving and we are still torn up. She had the most beautiful voice and I loved to hear her sing. Though she was hospitalized and several tests run, the real reason for her death was never discovered. In all of the years pf caring for children here in Haiti Mary Ange is the only one we have ever lost. Perhaps the Lord needed a beautiful voice for His choir in Heaven.

Haitian money
Haitian Money Called Gourdes
Why
are they called gourdes? During the time
of Henry Christophe, the only king of Haiti, they used the Calabash gourds as a
form of monetary exchange. The actual
translation of gourdes from French to English is flask or water bottle. They used them to carry water, make bowls,
and for many other purposes.
5 gourdes = 1 Haitian Dollar = 12.5
cents ……..….... U.S.
10 gourdes = 2 Haitian Dollars = 25 cents ……….....
U.S.
25 gourdes = 5 Haitian Dollars = 62.5 cents ……...…..
U.S.
50 gourdes = 10 Haitian
Dollars = 1 dollar and
25 cents. .U.S.
100 gourdes = 20
Haitian Dollars = 2 dollars and 50 cents ..U.S.
250 gourdes = 50
Haitian Dollars = 6 dollars and 25 cents ..U.S.
500 gourdes = 100 Haitian Dollars = 12 dollars and 50 cents U.S.
1000 gourdes = 200 Haitian Dollars = 25 dollars ……………...U.S.

IT WILL HAPPEN, COUNT ON IT
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever.

Colossians 3:13
New Living Translation (NLT)
Make allowance for each other's faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.
