Sleeping Outside

Some are still sleeping outside because here these many months later we are still having aftershocks. One of 4.5 was recorded in Port au Prince recently. I am going to be adding to my blog more in the future as I have been letting down since the earthquake.

Mark Allen Vinelon

I am happy to announce an answer to prayer. For some years now I have been praying that God would provide someone who could come in and take up the work load that Poppy and myself cannot do anymore. I had hoped that that person would be Mark Allen. He was working in Port au Prince and his wife Cynthia was working at a local Bank there so it didn't look like that was going to happen. The earthquake changed all that. The Bank where Cynthia was working was damaged so badly that they couldn't operate. They came down after the quake and God began to deal with them about working here. Now that decision has been made and I am thrilled beyond words. I will be 73 in May and one never knows what the future holds. I shall be working with Mark and now should something happen to me I know he will be able to continue to do the work here for years to come. Remember him in your prayers.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Along the capital’s main commercial strip dozens of armed men some wielding machetes, others with sharpened pieces of wood — dodged from storefront to storefront, battering down doors and hauling away whatever they could carry: shoes, luggage, rolls of carpet. There were also reports of attacks on aid deliveries. Fred Lavaud, who works on the security detail of Haiti’s president, René Préval, described scenes of women who were assaulted after receiving food. “The problem is there’s no control,” he said. “And people are desperate.” Note: Fred is the husband of Yolande who is one of our girls.

Can you believe this? After the earthquake that destroyed everything else around it, this was the only thing left standing.

Three Days

Thirty five years ago I was in a meeting in Port-au-Prince where it was prophesied that the last great Revival that was to take place before the 2nd coming of Jesus would begin in Haiti and from there would spread around the world. Since then there have been numerous times practically the same thing was spoken or prophesied. Before the earthquake on January 12, 2010 a lady in the States had a vision. She was told to warn the leaders of Haiti that a great catastrophe was coming upon the country and called for three days of fasting and prayer. She came to Haiti and asked to speak to the President of Haiti. She was refused. She then sent a message and it was returned unopened. The greatest catastrophe that has ever struck this country came only a few days later. Between 150,000 and 200,000 people were killed and up to 1 million injured. There has been up to 200,000 amputees since January 12. The infrastructure of Haiti is gone. The National Palace, the Palace of Justice, and most other government buildings were destroyed. Food, medicines, water, and other basic necessities had to be brought it from outside the country. Now, the same lady is back with the same message only this time it is different. She still calls for 3 days of fasting and prayer over all the country of Haiti to ask for God’s grace and mercy. This time she got through to the President and the Nation’s leaders. Tomorrow, one month since the quake, Saturday and Sunday a national referendum has called for all businesses to close. All government offices will be closed and people from all over Haiti regardless of their religious affiliation will observe the three days of Fasting and Prayer. Because of the horrific earthquake that brought such devastation to the people and the country of Haiti everyone in the world knows about Haiti. The news networks from all over the world sent reporters here who broadcast through a satellite uplink the stories and pictures of human tragedy. No one now asks, “Where is Haiti” for they all know. Now I ask you, “Are these three days the time the beginning of the last great revival before the coming of Jesus that was prophesied? I believe it is. When we were out of food and water one of our little girls had a vision or a dream one night. She said that in her dream she and all the children were seated at a big table under a large tent. She said there was plenty of food to eat and she could eat all she wanted and not be hungry anymore. She said she looked up and saw through the top of the tent and God was seated looking at a book. He raised His head and said in Creole, “Jesus is coming soon.” She said he went on to say the same phrase in every other language of the world.” Could all of this be true and this is the last revival before His coming? You decide for yourself.

Earthquake Jan. 12, 2010

ROYAL PALM CHILDREN’S HOME Fond Doux, Haiti W.I. It was a few minutes after 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday January 12 when the house began to jerk violently. I was sitting on the side of my bed. Little Children began to scream but they could not run to get help. As they tried to run they fell as no one could stand when the earthquake hit. Daniel, one of our boys who attends a school in Petit Goave had just arrived home. He left the school at 3:00 p.m. and was encouraged to stay for a special event but he came on home. The school he was in all day was completely destroyed, one floor collapsing on another. All left in the school were dead. Violine was sitting in a chair and was thrown to the other side of the room but she was alright. With the exception of some cuts and bruises all the children and young people in our home were accounted for. The electrical poles and transformers fell with a mighty crash and when night fell it was total darkness. You could hear crying coming from different huts as people were told that their loved ones were dead. A pastor who has a Church next to us lost two of his daughters. One died instantly, or so he thinks as her body was never located, and the other was seriously injured and died Sunday morning. People began to come to our home to use the phone to call their folks in the States. They pushed one lady up the hill on a bicycle with a compound fracture to her leg. It was bandaged and blood was seeping through. They carried her to the phone where she called her people in the U.S. to inform them that she was alright but the rest of the family was gone. Others came with horror stories you cannot believe. The little town close to us is completely destroyed. You could not drive down the streets as homes there were destroyed filled the street. Our home was damaged but still stood. Cracks appeared in the Church but it to is still standing. People of the area are in desperate need as no help has in our area. The city next to us of Petit Goave is completely gone. The smell of rotting bodies is so strong that people have to wear rags over they nose and mouth to be able to breathe. We have no water and the food is not nearly enough for everyone to have what they need. We go out daily trying to find something for the Children here. We are in desperate need of power so we can pump water out of our 195 ft. deep well. If we could do this we could supply drinking water to the entire village of Fond Doux thousands of people make their homes. Now they are drinking contaminated water and many are sick with dysentery. If something doesn’t happen fast there will be an outbreak of typhoid. Help from around the world has not reached us yet. Relief supplies of food and water have been distributed in Port au Prince and some other areas but have not reached us as yet. In all the 35 years I have been here I have never witnessed anything compared to this. In spite of this we continue to hold services in the dark and the power of God is so real. Pray for our Children as school cannot be resumed this year because of the infrastructure that is broken down. Pray for our Pastors who have lost so many of their congregation and loved ones. Pray that God will bless us with enough funds to purchase a much needed generator for our Orphanage and Mission’s Compound. Missionary Bob C. Jones

Renerlande and her "Corn Flakes."

I mentioned in a letter I sent out before Christmas that I had asked one little girl the question, "If you could have anything in the world for Christmas, what would it be." She thought for a moment and then said "Corn Flakes." I just wanted to let you know that Renerlande got her Corn Flakes. Not only did she get her Corn Flakes but she received a little doll as well.
